2020 APPLICATION PROCESS:

Direction Through Solitude focuses on improving and changing the lives of teens through mentorship within Fly Fishing, Bikepacking and Backpacking. In addition to teaching the skills necessary to safely explore the outdoors, we also focus on teaching skills relating to character development, self-discovery and leadership.

*PLEASE READ*

WHY SHOULD YOUR TEEN BE INVOLVED IN DIRECTION THROUGH SOLITUDE?

  • On average, teens spend 7 hours and 22 minutes on screen media each day – not including time spent for school or homework. On the contrary, kids are only spending an average of 4-7 minutes outside each day. The way we spend our time translates into our long term mental and physical health. Direction Through Solitude is working to change the mindset of teens in regards to how they spend their time. Through outdoor adventure, mentorship, interacting with friends, and learning leadership skills – Direction Through Solitude works to build a healthy foundation for teens to be happy and succeed in life.

GENERAL OVERVIEW DETAILS:

  • Each teen that is accepted into our program will attend 1 event each month during April – August. One of these events will be a 1 night, 2-day trip. All events are hosted either in Boise, or within 1-3 hours of Boise.

  • Availability to each program is limited. Teens who are accepted into our programs will be expected to attend all events, as each event builds on the previous one. (PLEASE, check the schedules below the fillable forms to ensure your teen will be made available to attend each event.)

  • Transportation will be provided for any events taking place OUTSIDE Boise. For events in the Boise area, participants will need transportation.

  • Each teen can only participate in one program (Fly Fishing WILD/Bikepacking WILD/Backpacking WILD)

  • There is no cost for teens to be involved in our programs.

  • See "About us" tab for more information. Also feel free to email us with questions @ directionthroughsolitude@gmail.com
